Member-in-Training and Early Career Committee

A committee that has been established to represent and serve the needs of members in training and early career members.  

Chair: Chair: Shawn F. Smyth, MD, is a behavioral neurology and movement disorders subspecialist in private practice in Baltimore, and is a part-time assist professor at Johns Hopkins University and is part-time on the medical staff at Sinai Hospital.  He completed neurology residency at the University of Colorado, fellowship in Movement Disorders at Johns Hopkins University, and fellowship in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry at University Hospitals Case Western Medical Center.  Dr. Smyth’s interests include progressive brain disorders that affect behavior and movement, clinical assessments and ratings, and patient-caregiver dyads.

Joseph Cooper, MD, is currently an Assistant Professor, Assistant Director of Residency Training, and Director of Neuropsychiatry and Neuromodulation Services at the University of Chicago. He completed psychiatry residency training at the University of Chicago, and fellowship in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry at Northwestern University. His academic interests include neuropsychiatry and neuroscience education in psychiatry residency training, catatonia and its medical causes, and the cognitive effects of psychiatric treatments including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
